More walking in the mountains

Breakfast was set up for us at 7 am and we enjoyed the experience with an egg cracked onto ham above a candle stove, and another one heating miso on a leaf, while dressed in yukata, on the floor. It was nice that most of the guests were Japanese. The daughter of the place had spent some months in Melbourne and they were very nice hosts.
there were bus rides available into town but we opted for our walk up the hill behind the Hida village and headed off around 8 am. Snow still lay on the ground in patches and where it had been piled up. There were drums to beat to scare the bears away from the path which climbed steeply, crossing a road a couple of times. At the top there was a carpark and picnic area and a track leading to castle ruins from which we got a magnificent view across Takayama and surrounding snow covered mountains. And we had it all to ourselves.
Continuing along the track we passed a man and there was also one at a shrine we came to, although I did not see him. The track then climbed steeply over a hill and we descended past another lookout.
It was past 11 am when we got back to our place and had a rest for a while before walking into town to find some lunch.
We decided to visit the museum of floats where 8 were on display and avoided a tour group. There was a nice display relatiing to the floats at the railway station which we had enjoyed when we arrived. Our ticket also gave entry to a minature recreation of Ieyetsu's mausoleum at Nikko which we had walked past. It was well done and gave a good idea of the extensive buildings of the place.
We still had to walk back uphill to our place and get dome dinner but that all worked out well although it was another long day.
