The German cafe opened later on Sunday morning but we got there in the rain by 7.30 only to realise that I had left my specs in our room. Fortunately it was a pin code to get in and Dick remembered it so he went back to get them. It was a bit of an anxious wait for our JR bus in the rain and we were close to catching [and paying] for another bus, when it appeared. So we were at the station in good time for our bullet train to Toyama where we changed to a Hida Wide View and headed south into the mountains. It was wet outside but the rivers and power stations were impressive once we had passed the fields.
At Takayama by 11 am, we put our cases and backpacks in a locker, grabbed some lunch in the cafe then headed out for a walk. The blossom was not yet out and the park at the top of the hill was quite wet but we covered a bit of ground before we returned to the station and called Oyada Hachibei to get a lift. We bought supplies in town as we had opted only for breakfast.
We had a nice big room with our beds set up and a table and floor seats with green tea.
We went out for a walk and found the start of a walk above the Hida village.
Dressed in yukata, we went down to the hot tubs. There was an outdoor one as well as indoor although we had it to ourselves as it was before dinner time.
